The Dover Legion was chartered 1919 and has been operating continuously in Dover ever since.

It was formed in the name of George Bernard Preston of Dover who, at 20 years old gave his life in service of his country.

For decades the legion was without a home of its own and held meetings in the current town hall. It has been operating at its current location on Dedham Street since the late 1950’s when it was built by the members, most of whom had served in WWI, WW2 and Korea

Our members, auxiliary and large booster population contribute time, materials and money in service of several charitable and community service efforts including:

  • Toys-For-Tots
  • Veteran’s organizations including Adopt-A-Vet & Team Red White and Blue
  • College scholarships for Dover-Sherborn students
  • The annual “Dover Days” and Memorial Day celebrations
  • Annual Seniors Holiday Dinner

Funding for these activities comes from the operation of its members and guest lounge, dues, hall rental fees, various fund raising activities throughout the year including our annual Christmas tree sale, and support from several generous sponsors.

The function hall is available for events ranging up to 200 people and features a private bar and kitchen facility. Please contact 508-785-9878 for more details, or email the Dover Legion.

Veterans meetings are held at Post 209 on the Monday following the first Thursday of each month, September through May at 1900.
